The Franciscan Minims of the Perpetual Succour of Mary found a second
Convent at Guadalajara
| |
| At
present, July 2007, the cloister walls are finished and blessed
(above),
now the nuns need to construct the rest of the buildings! |

|
| The
new Minim Convent rises in Zapopan, Guadalajara. In 1999 Bishop
Alfonso De Galarreta recommended the new foundation, since
the maximum number of nuns for the community (33) was almost
complete. |
The Order, founded in 1942 at Zamora, Mexico, is today thriving in
fidelity to Holy Tradition under the chaplaincy of the SSPX. The
nuns have Our Mother of Perpetual Succour as their Superior General
to Whom they have recourse for counsel and advice on every occasion.
This they also reflect in the colours of their habit which are taken
from Her holy image. Also called the Order of Atonement, they live
a life of penance in order to atone for the sins of the entire world.

Each
Minim lives, first of all, a life of prayer and penance. They are
as mothers of suffering humanity, due to their vocation as victim
souls, united to Jesus, Divine Mediator. Each nun pronounces the perpetual
vow of victim at the time of perpetual profession. They continuously
mourn over the wounds of the world, keeping in mind all the spiritual
and temporal needs of each and every one who mourns in this valley
of tears, praying for all without exception. Seeking first the Kingdom
of God and His Justice, the nuns live a penitential life. Below: A
typical cell with its sparse furnishings and wooden bed and nuns taking their meals kneeling in their austere refectory.
The
Minims are dedicated to an intense life of detachment from the world,
offering themselves up continuously to prayer and sacrifice. Their
only exterior apostolate, within the convent itself is to give religious
conferences to women, organise groups for catechism and feminine Catholic
activities, with the purpose of educating women in morals, in social
customs, and instructing them in a life of piety. Another part of
their apostolate is the publication of Estrella magazine and bulletins,
so as to expand their work and send out little rays of light to Catholic
homes. Below: Nuns engaged in teaching little children in the convent,
a sister making sacred vestments, another sister making hosts for
the Holy Sacrifice, and work in the kitchen. At right: A professed
nun with long blue veil makes a visit to the Blessed Sacrament through
the little window overlooking the high altar of the church.
