The Carmel of the Most Holy Trinity in Spokane, Washington in the U.S.A. was founded by Mother Marie Christiane, a sister of Archbishop Lefebvre. Here is some news of the Sisters from a recent newsletter.

Our long silence since Easter […] does not mean to say that things have been silent within Carmel since that time! Quite the contrary! Having left the embellishment of our chapel as one of the final steps in the construction of our Carmel out West, the month of May was full of discussion on this topic, while the project finally got under way at the beginning of June. The day before our team of workers from the Post Falls parish moved in, the Blessed Sacrament was moved out to make room for them.

During the months of June and July, we have had the great privilege of finding ourselves in very close contact with His Adorable Presence, since the temporary Chapel and Choir have been set up on either side of the grate of our big parlour, where the Sisters ordinarily receive the visits of their families. With just the grate and the curtain separating us, we are almost as close to the altar during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as our faithful altar server and sacristan, who comes each day for the service of the altar. On days of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, we are ‘face-to-face with Our Lord!

In the meanwhile, when the whole community is obliged to go to the parlour for our weekly spiritual conference, it is quite a manoeuvre to get everyone in place. When all are seated, we fit in the small parlour front to back and wall to wall! This was the case when His Excellency, Bishop Fellay came to give us a long talk on the present situation in the Church and the Society of St Pius X. Well, the beautiful silence of Carmel, in a word, went out the window when our works began, but it will surely be a price worth paying when the chapel is complete.

In July we had the joy of assisting at two first Masses of two newly-ordained priests - and receiving their blessing. On 16 July it was the turn of Rev. Fr R. MacPherson, while on 20 July, the Feast of the Prophet St Elias, it was a joy for us to see Rev. Fr T. Burfitt at the altar, since he is from our area and used to serve Mass in our chapel as a young man. July is also the month of expectation as we see the fruit on our little plum trees growing and coming to maturity. This is the first year that we did not pluck off the blossoms so that they would bear their first crop of fruit. The limbs of these little trees are so heavily weighted doen with their fruity burden that we have had to prop them up to prevent them from breaking. This makes us think of the ‘Little Souls’ of which St Thérèse of the Child Jesus speaks. Although they are little and weak in appearance, they bear great fruits of holiness.

As announced in our last newsletter, we had the clothing ceremony of our new novice on 8 April. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. Fr James Doran, Vice-Rector of the seminary at Winona - and we were blessed with beautiful, sunny weather on the day (in the middle of a windy, rainy season) which made it possible for the faithful who did not find place in the Chapel to sit on the lawn outside and follow the ceremony over the public address system. †
