Capuchins - 30 years of fidelity

MORGON, France - The community of Capuchin Friars of traditional observance of St Francis’ Monastery in Morgon, France celebrated their thirtieth anniversary in August.

It was in 1972 that the community’s founder, Fr Eugène de Villeurbanne, O.F.M. Cap. (1904-90) began his work of restoration of the Capuchin rule and spirituality in the wake of the postconciliar disaster. Initially Fr Eugène and his first followers were based at Derjon in the Ain region, but in 1983 they acqired the property at Morgon in the famous Beaujolais wine-producing area near Lyons.

Fully allied to Mgr Lefebvre and the SSPX from the beginning, this austere community has grown and prospered through the intercession of Padre Pio and all the Capuchin saints, and now counts six priests. A convent of traditional Poor Clares was begun in 1992 under their direction, and a Third Order for laity is also flourishing.
